Simone O'Brien is a freelance performance maker, writer, teacher and director of circus and physical theatre. From 2006 – 201, Simone enjoyed the role of the Artistic Associate with Legs On The Wall physical theatre company. In this role she delivered artist development and social circus programs, designed physical theatre and circus curriculum for the secondary and tertiary education sectors and directed small scale and large scale events for the community, Indigenous, disability and corporate sectors including the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence, National Institute for Circus Arts, the National Institute of Dramatic Art and the Beijing Olympics.
Simone specializes in aerial, trapeze, harness work and contemporary performance drawing upon an eclectic mix of influences to make work including dance, contact improvisation, theatre, knitting, physical theatre, clowning, Japanese yoga, Butoh and slapstick. Simone has worked as a performer mentor, choreographer and director with a wide range of artists and organisations including aerial director for the Aerodome and Balloon Spectacular at Canberra's Enlighten Festival, Circus Oz, the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Stalker, the JUMP mentorship program, Force Majeure, Casula Powerhouse, Woodford Folk Festival QLD, WA Circus Festival, Tasmanian Circus Festival, Hoopla Circus Festival and the Catapult Youth Circus Festival.
