Sandi relocated to Broome nearly three years ago with her husband and young baby, Eddie and immediately immersed herself in the local arts and cultural scene. Her experience in administration, project management and dance, meant that she was able to link in with different parts of the community. Within months she was teaching upper school dance at Broome Senior High School, consulting for the Kimberley Performing Arts Council (KPAC) and had joined the Board of Theatre Kimberley. She is currently teaching the Upper School Dance technique classes at Broome SHS and working with various local Youth Services. In June 2011, Sandi developed, directed and coordinated: YOUTUBE ME DANCE a hip-hop dance project with Perth Hip-Hop artist, Jason Bird and local Broome artist, Justine de Bruyn. The project involved physical workshops in the schools and at the Drop-In Centre as well as a YouTube exchange. In 2012, the project has grown to include workshops in Broome, Derby and the Dampier Peninsula – with two visiting artists and a team of three local artists.
Prior to moving to Broome, Sandi worked at the Federal Government’s Arts and Funding Advisory agency – the Australia Council for the Arts – for nearly nine years. She had various positions within the Dance Board, Youth and Education Policy Division and the Community Partnerships section. Over this time, she worked on many and varied projects including reviews of the organisation’s Young People and the Arts Policy, developing special initiatives for the youth and education arts sector and grants program development and evaluation. Sandi has taught, performed and/or choreographed for many reputable organisations including: WA Academy of Performing Arts, Steps Youth Dance Company (Perth), Celebrate WA, Jebediah, Festival of Perth (now Perth International Festival of the Arts), Quantum Leap Youth Choreographic Ensemble (Canberra), Australian Youth Dance Festival, AusdanceWA, AusdanceACT, Popstars, Barron Television, Perth Wildcats, Fremantle Dockers, the Western Reds and various high schools in Perth.
