Press Release in April, 2007:

 The Sandfly circus is back!

How?

The programme is coordinated by Gwen Knox Artistic Director of Theatre Kimberley Inc. and especially the amazing Be Active Worn Art.

Each session is run by a team of local circus trainers who have a background in circus and gymnastics.

There will be opportunities for professional development for trainers and participants throughout the year provided by visiting circus professionals in the form of holiday programmes and master classes.

Theatre Kimberley Youth Theatre Project has been made possible by the generous support by: Be Active Healthway, KDC, Community Arts Network WA, PCYC and ArtsWA.

 Why?

Circus provides a whole myriad of transferable skills to participants in: social, wellbeing, physical development, fitness, employment, presentation, and theatre skills in general, and is bucket loads of fun.

Sandfly circus was a name coined by Eleanor Davies when she used to visit Broome to work with Gwen on various circus projects some years ago. She is a renowned circus performer especially on the tight rope whilst wearing stilettos. She has performed in several Worn Art events. She is especially remembered for her marriage on stage or was it giving birth to, a tractor tube.
